Hi,

I am trying to install Oracle 8.0.6 on win 2003 server. i have installed the OS and database software. when i try to connect to INTERNAL, i get an "ORA-12203: TNS :Unable to connect to the destination" error. I have checked my tns file and an entry with correct details is present.

Please tell me where to look further to solve the problem.

Thank You

This is what Oracle says:Oracle

ORA-12203: TNS:unable to connect to destination

Cause: Invalid address specified or destination is not listening. This error can also occur because of underlying network or network transport problems.

Action: Verify that the net service name you entered was correct. Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which corresponds to the net service name is correct. Ensure that the destination process (for example the listener) is running at the remote node.

Note that Oracle 8i is desupported. Also, it has never been certified with MS Windows 2003. Therefore, perhaps you should choose a more recent (and supported) Oracle database to install on that operating system. The lowest version (that is now on extended support) is 9i. However, I believe that you shouldn't install anything below 10g R2.

Is Win 2003 server a better option for installing oracle databases prior to 9i? Please tell me if 2003 server supports 8.0.6 version.

V8.0.6 was obsoleted & unsupported long before Windows 2003 was released.

It appears you have V8.0.6 on Windows 2000 & want to end up on V10 on Windows 2003.

The safest way to accomplish this would be to use V8 exp & V10 imp

I have checked all the entries in Tnsnames.ora,in registry, parameter file but no solution was found. Are there any security related issue with Active directory. Does it start oracle services automatically? Sad

As you didn't post what you made, it is hard to answer on what is wrong.
Before using AD to authenticate, try to make it work in a more common way.
By the way, I don't think you use tnsnames.ora if you use AD to authenticate, but is this what you really do?

As you didn't post what you did, how can I give an OTHER method?
Post exaclty and in details what you did to configure your rdbms and database.
As you are a newbie and authenticated in Oracle with AD in an (very) advanced features, I can say with fex doubts that you did it wrong unless you follow a working manual provided by your colleague.

As I said, try to first ake it work in a "standard" way of logging.

Regards
Michel

I was given the task of installing oracle 8.0.6 on win 2003 server in AD (which was already configured). I installed the database software.

Started the database assistant to create a new database.I gave all the locations of database files, names of SID,ORACLE_HOME and other basic info abt databases. when i finish configuration, i pressed FINISH. I got the error.

Do u need info abt AD or database setup information? I have given info on what i did abt rdbms and database. Hope this ll help u in answering.

Do NOT use IM speak (once again).

There is nothing in what you say that tell there is something related to AD in your database.
Do you authenticate to the database wtih AD or not?
Once more COPY AND PASTE what you did.

Michel
