Most probably not. Oracle was never certified on any MS Windows Home Edition. You should upgrade to Professional.

How about in Professional Basic.

Thanks.

Does professional basic exist?
It seems a contradiction for me, if it is professional then it is not basic.

Michel

Windows 7 versions are listed here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions

Windows 7 Starter
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate

The Windows 7 versions that are compatible with Oracle 11gR2 are listed here:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24283/toc.htm#BGBEEBAD

Windows 7 x64 - Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions

With older Oracle versions and older Windows versions, there used to be ways to install Oracle on Windows Home and have most features work, even thought it was not supported, and I used to do this. However, I was unable to install Oracle 11gR2 on Windows 7 Home. I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and installed Oracle 11gR2 and have been using it for a long time with no problems. You should do the same.

Hi everyone

Just want to note I've successfully installed Oracle 11gR2 EE to Windows 7 Home basic. Going to use it for educational purposes so I think it's ok - I've started database instance, listener and configured EM db control. So we may tell Win7 Home is not certified with Oracle 11g but it will work, if not for production purposes but just for self-study.

"Not certified" means, maybe it will work or maybe not or maybe it will work some time or for some things and not an other time or thing but no one can know as no one has tested it.

The challenge is that when Oracle throws an error, how do you decide if it is real or just a bug in the Oracle product; a false positive?

Yes, it works perfectly. The advice you have been given so far all refers to whether it is CERTIFIED on home basic, not whether it WORKS on home basic. Of course, Oracle will not support you - but since I do not think that you intend to buy a licence and a support contract for this installation, that is not relevant.
Remember that all Oracle cares about is the kernel version. For windows 8.1:
c:\users\john>
c:\users\john>ver

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]

c:\users\john>
There is no difference between kernels for home and professional editions.

While I can't lay my hands on it, I seem to remember that there are differences between the way the 'home' editions and the 'not-home' editions handle UAC profiles, and this also impacts the smooth operation of Oracle. If so, I would think that would be more than just kernel compatibility.

UAC? I thought that everyone switched that off, or the computer is totally unusable Smile

You may well be right. I wouldn't know.

It's Windows. "Unusable" is almost a given. Laughing

I wouldn't bet too heavily on my previous statement. Like I said, it was a vague memory and I couldn't lay my hands on the source. You've done a lot more work in that area than I have.
