I am about to start to have to administrate Oracle 7.3.4 on VMS and am looking for advice. Up til now I only have experience with Oracle on UNIX. Can anyone help me by answering some questions?

Thanks

I use it ... Oracle 7.1.5, though.

We use Oracle9i on OpenVMS. Ask away if you still have concerns...

I spent 10 years managing VMS Clusters, I never had Oracle running on them, but my VMS is still pretty good Smile

Our VMS & Oracle run on Digital Alpha Server 2100. It was working absolutely fine when most users used applications written in Forms 3.0 and Reports 1.1, and - perhaps more important - had VT terminals (that is, tool they used to "attack" the server was all in character mode).

But now, having only a few terminals and couple of hundreds PCs, Alpha is not feeling well any more. It often ends up with "insufficient dynamic memory", won't allow users to connect when there are too many of them online, ...

However, I think I'll be sorry when we kick out that Alpha and OpenVMS (just like we did with microVAX last year). *sigh*

Hi,

Try avoiding them to kick it out by increasing the dynamic memory so that people still can access it...If you're not experienced you can just run the procedure "sys$update:autogen.com" and it will help you on your way...
