Usenet: bogus groups

From Oracle FAQ
Jump to: navigation, search

The following bogus usenet groups may be present at some sites, or may occasionally appear in the "Newsgroups:" header. However, none of them are regarded as legitimate groups and they should not be used:

Bogus Group: Reason:
comp.databases.oracle superseded by comp.databases.oracle.misc
comp.databases.oracle.market should be comp.databases.oracle.marketplace
comp.database.oracle should be comp.databases.oracle.* (see below)
comp.database.oracle.server should be comp.databases.oracle.server
comp.database.oracle.tools should be comp.databases.oracle.tools
comp.database.oracle.misc should be comp.databases.oracle.misc
comp.database.oracle.marketplace should be comp.databases.oracle.marketplace

Usenet is a cooperative anarchy, and doesn't really have "official" and "bogus" groups that are enforcible. However, the above groups are considered to be invalid by the majority of admins. People posting to these groups will find propagation of their postings to be poor, and thus potential responses to them to be limited.

If you are aware of an ISP (Internet Service Provider) that carries the above groups, please ask them to remove them ASAP!
